Andrea Schjetnan, PhD

Associate

Andrea is originally from Mexico City, where she received a B.Sc. in Psychology at Universidad Iberoamericana. Her interest in expanding her knowledge of behaviour and rehabilitation led her to a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences/Neuroscience and Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM), focusing on brain plasticity. In Canada, she started a path in Systems Neuroscience, exploring neuronal dynamics in several disease models in search of novel rehabilitation therapies. She has had the privilege to record brain cells from mice, rats, Non-Human Primates and Humans; she deeply enjoyed listening to neurons at work ('it is like the sound of making popcorn'). In the last few years, she has been looking to change gears to apply her scientific background to impact behaviour directly. She joined a collaborative project in Empatho Holdings as a scientific consultant. In Empatho, she has led the communication between the company's Behavioural Research and the Data Analytics sections to build a Wellbeing App. For some time now, she has looked for the opportunity to join BEworks. She is thrilled to start learning to apply behavioural insights to solve business and policy problems creatively. She feels aligned with BEworks principles of curiosity, science-driven solutions and teamwork.
